Rajnath Singh Indicates 'Good Environment' in India-China Talks

India and China seem to be making efforts to end their border standoff that is now in its fourth year with a resolution still far away on a few friction points.

Indian Defense Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday stressed that India and China were holding talks in a "good environment" to resolve their long-standing border standoff.
"I understand that we should wait for the outcome of the talks. But I want to assure the countrymen that India has not bowed down anywhere, nor will it ever bow down," Singh said during a public interaction in Ahmedabad city of India's Western state of Gujarat.
It is worth noting that India and China have held 21 rounds of corps commander-level talks to find a way to disengage and de-escalate from the remaining friction points in the Himalayan region.
However, both the military level interactions and diplomacy have failed to bring down their differences over their border dispute which began in May 2020 and escalated a month later when both nations suffered casualties in a violent scuffle between their respective troops in the Galwan Valley.
Both countries have also amassed more than 50,000 soldiers at the border.
Interestingly, the neighbors have already pulled back their forces from multiple friction points, including the North and South banks of Pangong Tso Lake, the deadlock has persisted over resolving the standoff in Depsang and Demchok.
