Russia will ink an intergovernmental contract with Myanmar for building low-power nuclear power plants (LNPP) in the Southeast Asian nation, the Russian Cabinet of Ministers announced on Saturday.
According to details provided by the decree published on the official website of legal acts of the Russian government, the Eurasian country will construct a nuclear power plant that would generate at least 110 MW of energy with the help of Russian nuclear reactors.
"We are talking about the construction in Myanmar of a land-based low-power nuclear power plant (LNPP) with a capacity of at least 110 MW with Russian nuclear reactors. Russia will build the station and will operate it. The state corporation Rosatom was instructed to sign the agreement on behalf of the Russian government", the statement said.
Last year, Moscow and Naypyidaw finalised an intergovernmental agreement to cooperate in the civilian nuclear domain.
The agreement envisaged building low-power nuclear power plants with Russian aid, which would comprise technical as well as financial assistance.
