The Northern Sea Route (NSR) is an important element of Russia's Arctic strategy. In bypassing traditional routes through the Suez Canal and around the Cape of Good Hope, NSR provides a shorter and more cost-effective shipping route between Europe and Asia.
Rosatom, Russia's largest nuclear energy corporation which operates the nuclear-powered cargo ship Sevmorput, is in talks with India regarding potential collaboration on NSR, as told by its Director General, Alexey Likhachev, to RIA Novosti.
Likhachev highlighted that Rosatom is not only cooperating in the nuclear sphere with India but also contemplating joint projects on NSR. This global transport corridor would benefit the Southasian country's economy.
He also mentioned that Russia is considering collaboration between Rosatom and its Indian counterparts in science and technology fields, including quantum computing and communication, as well as quantum sensor technology. This collaboration between Rosatom and India would enhance the utilization of NSR for international trade and strengthen bilateral ties between the two countries.
