Turkmenistan on Saturday joined a growing list of nations that have recognised Taliban-appointed ambassadors to their respective countries.
These diplomats represent Afghanistan in these states.
"Today, the Deputy of the Council of Ministers & Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan, Mr. Raşit Meredow accepted Mr. Haji Fazal Mohammad Sabir as the Charge d'affaires of the Embassy of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in Turkmenistan. During a ceremony, FM Meredow said that Turkmenistan & Afghanistan are planning to implement major projects, hence, upgrading the level of diplomatic relations is a necessary initiative," Afghanistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.
It is worth noting that very few foreign nations have accepted Taliban-anointed diplomats inside Afghanistan's diplomatic missions abroad.
Among the embassies where the Taliban has gained control are Qatar, Malaysia, India, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), amongst others.
Meanwhile, a handful of countries like China have appointed Charge d'affaires in Kabul after foreign nations closed down their embassies/diplomatic offices in Afghanistan following the fall of the Ashraf Ghani-led government after the Taliban stormed the Central Asian nation's capital three years ago.
