On Wednesday, the Indian and South African Navies announced the signing of an Implementing Agreement for rescue support in ocean waters, ensuring India's assistance to South Africa's naval crew during emergencies.
"Under this agreement, the Indian Navy will provide assistance by deploying its Deep Submergence Rescue Vehicle (DSRV) when required, further strengthening the collaborative ties between the two navies," India’s Ministry of Defence (MoD) stated.
The partnership "reinforces the longstanding maritime relationship" between the African and South Asian states, the statement reads.
The agreement was signed by Indian Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi and his South African counterpart, Vice Admiral Monde Lobese.
Notably, maritime relations between the two countries have been on the upswing in recent times, with India hosting the bilateral navy staff talks in New Delhi last month. The discussions focused on strengthening maritime relations and enhancing synergy between the two navies.
