Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar will represent the country at US president-elect Donald Trump's swearing-in ceremony.
"At the invitation of the Trump-Vance Inauguration Committee, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar will represent the Government of India at the swearing-in ceremony of President-elect Donald Trump as the 47th President of the United States," a statement by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) read.
The MEA noted that during his visit, Jaishankar will also meet members of the new administration and other high-ranking officials attending the event.
Donald Trump, who previously served as US President from 2017 to 2021, won the presidential election on November 5 — becoming the first leader since the 19th century to return to the White House after a four-year gap.
Trump's victory was confirmed by Congress on January 6. The inauguration will take place on January 20.
