In the civic polls held last week, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) ended Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) 15-year rule in the Delhi civic body.
Days after claiming that the mayor of the newly elected Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) will be from the BJP, the party's Delhi Chief Adesh Gupta on Friday declared that the post will be held by the AAP for winning the civic polls.
"The BJP will play the role of a strong opposition in the MCD," Gupta told reporters while adding that his party BJP will be the people's "watchdog" in the civic body.

The announcement is a U-turn from Bharatiya Janata Party'(BJP) previous stance on the issue. The incumbent party lost to the state's ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the polls earlier this week. The AAP won 134 seats while the BJP bagged 104.
"Delhi should be clean and MCD should do good work, it will be our priority," he stated.
The BJP's changed stance is a climbdown from its earlier stated position after the MCD polls when it said that AAP may have secured victory, but the Mayor's poll was a different ball game altogether.
"Now over to electing a mayor for Delhi. It will all depend on who can hold the numbers in a close contest, which way the nominated councilors vote etc. Chandigarh has a BJP mayor, for instance," BJP's IT Cell chief Amit Malviya said in a tweet at the time.
