Amid rising cyber-attacks, Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) members and representatives of regional anti-terrorist structures deliberated upon the misuse of the internet by terrorists and other elements threatening global security on Thursday."The focus of the discussion was on how the social media is turning into a ‘toolkit’ of terrorists along with its threats and challenges," a statement issued by India's National Security Council Secretariat read.Organized by Delhi, the two-day seminar on “Securing the Cyberspace Frontiers” for delegates from the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, brought together member states and representatives of the regional anti-terrorist structure (SCO-RATS).The member countries - India, Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyz Republic, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan - shared their experience of identifying anonymous users of various messenger platforms and social media networks, as well as on the dark web and via cryptocurrency platforms.Countries have called for joint efforts to protect “Critical Information Infrastructure (CII), especially from the cyberattacks like ransomware” which is now becoming a preferred tool for terrorists.Addressing the “No money for terror” ministerial conference in November, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized that the darknet is being used by terrorists to spread radical content and conceal their identities.
