Since taking over Twitter in October, Elon Musk has brought a series of changes to the social media giant, including charging verified users on the platform.
Twitter users have voted in favor of Elon Musk's departure as the social media giant's Chief Executive Officer (CEO) after the 51-year-old multi-billionaire put up a poll on his microblogging site, asking users if he should quit as the San Francisco-based company's head.
With more than 17 million participants casting their vote, 57.5 percent of users backed him to step down from his post.
Musk had earlier promised to abide by the poll's results even if they didn't go in his favor.
"Should I step down as head of Twitter? I will abide by the results of this poll," he wrote while tweeting out the poll on the highly influential messaging app.
Besides introducing the poll to decide on his future as Twitter CEO, the Tesla and SpaceX founder promised that future policy changes on the social media network will undergo a vote and apologized for not doing so earlier.
Following his $44 billion acquisition of Twitter, Musk has been under fire for his drastic changes at the organization: not only did he sack Twitter's previous top management, including former CEO Parag Agrawal, but also trimmed down its workforce by nearly 50 percent.
More recently, the billionaire banned Twitter accounts of rival microblogging platforms, including the Indian Koo.
