Former Real Madrid talisman Cristiano Ronaldo has been heavily linked with a move to Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr after he parted ways with Manchester United last month.
Cristiano Ronaldo is on the verge of inking a whopping $212Mln per year contract with Al-Nassr, and the deal could be wrapped up in the next 24 hours, Spanish outlet Marca reported on Thursday.
CR7 is currently searching for a new employer after his departure from Old Trafford which came hot on the heels of his bombshell interview with British broadcaster Piers Morgan, where he hit out at the club's top management, including manager Erik ten Hag.
Although the five-time Ballon d'Or winner has made every possible attempt to remain in Europe, his offers have been rejected on several occasions, with the latest snubs coming from former Premier League champions Chelsea and more recently, from Germany's Eintracht Frankfurt.
At the moment, it appears that he has been left with no other option than Al-Nassr, an outfit which is extremely keen to bring him to the Kingdom.
Though Ronaldo is expected to play a key role in raising the profile of the club in particular and football in general in the Islamic nation, it appears the real reason for luring him to Riyadh is quite different.

Why Saudis Are So Keen To Sign Ronaldo

According to the Spanish media, the Funchal-born legendary footballer is on the brink of signing a seven-year deal that would include a two-and-a-half year playing term with Al-Nassr and the remaining 54 months in an ambassadorial role.

It is said that during his stint as a Saudi brand ambassador for football, his payment is expected to rise significantly.

Ronaldo's impending Saudi switch is being labeled a "state deal", as it is claimed that the monarchy is actively pursuing Ronaldo to come to Saudi.
The desert nation has already announced its plans to host the 2030 FIFA World Cup in partnership with Egypt and Greece and Saudi authorities want Ronaldo to boost their chances of bringing the tournament to their country.
They believe the 2016 Euro winner's global standing in the sport could tilt the balance in their favor as and when FIFA chooses to announce the name of the host for the World Cup in 2030.
Ronaldo is the top-scorer in international football with 118 goals in 196 caps for Portugal.
Al-Nassr are one of the most successful Saudi clubs, having won the Arab nation's top domestic tournament nine times in the past. Their most recent victory in the Saudi Pro League (SPL) came in 2019.
