The Jammu and Kashmir Police have killed at least 193 terrorists in 149 separate incidents this year.
At least four terrorists were killed in a chance encounter with security forces on Wednesday morning in Jammu, according to Additional Director General of Police Mukesh Singh.
The gunfight broke out at around 7:30 am near Tawi Bridge on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway when a suspicious truck was observed and stopped at the Sidhra checkpoint. When officers wanted to search the vehicle they came under heavy fire from inside and an encounter ensued, during which the truck caught fire.
It is believed that the heavy armed militants were on their way to Kashmir when they were intercepted. No their identities, or group affiliation are unknown at this time. Efforts are underway to locate the driver of the truck, who fled the scene.

"The clear picture will emerge once the truck is searched," the police chief said, adding it is part of the investigation to identify where from exctly the militants had infiltrated.

Officials said the intense firing between the two sides lasted for over 45 minutes, during which several explosions were also heard. Smoke was seen coming from the truck, which was loaded with husk and was completely damaged in the gunfight.
Meanwhile, Federal Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to hold a high-level security meeting on Wednesday evening, which is likely to address the ongoing security concerns and discuss ways to address the situation in the region.
