Myanmar's military court sentenced former democratic leader Aung San Suu Kyi to seven years in prison on Friday for corruption in purchase, repair, and rental of a helicopter used for state affairs, as well as natural disasters that happened during her tenure.The latest sentence marks the last corruption case filed against the Nobel laureate Suu Kyi , who is presently in jail, but may be put under house arrest following the conclusion of the trials.Suu Kyi came back to power following her party's landslide victory in the 2020 general election. Myanmar's military court sentenced former democratic leader Aung San Suu Kyi to seven years in prison on Friday for corruption in purchase, repair, and rental of a helicopter used for state affairs, as well as natural disasters that happened during her tenure.
The latest sentence marks the last
corruption case filed against the Nobel laureate Suu Kyi , who is presently in jail, but
may be put under house arrest following the conclusion of the trials.
The 77-year-old faces a total of 33 years in prison after she was convivted in multiple cases last year that involve alleged violations of COVID-19 protocols, election fraud and bribery.
