Indian Border Guards Seize Weapons Dropped by Pakistan Drone in Punjab
Pakistani drones have made multiple attempts to violate Indian airspace in the past months, with the Border Security Force already shooting down a couple in 2023.
India's Border Security Force (BSF) on Wednesday said to have confiscated an arms consignment air-dropped by a Pakistani drone in the border district of Gurdaspur in Punjab.
Providing details of the weapons seized, the BSF further stated that it includes four pistols of Chinese-origin, eight magazines of bullets, and another 47 live rounds that were picked up by the force during the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday from a village in Gurdaspur.
"On the intervening foggy night of 17-18 January 2023, a BSF party deployed on the outskirts of Uncha Takala Village in Gurdaspur heard the humming sound of a suspected drone coming from Pakistan side," the BSF said in a statement.
The BSF said alert troops opened fire on the suspected drone, resulting in the drop of weapons, and when the force's search party reached the location, they found a consignment of weapons and confiscated it.
The border guarding organisation BSF, which
guards the 3,323-kilometer border with Pakistan, launched a large-scale search and combing operation in the area after the incident.
"Vigilant BSF troops once again were able to foil nefarious design of smugglers to smuggle contrabands through drone," the BSF concluded.
However, this isn't the first time the security force thwarted Pakistani attempts to smuggle weapons to India this month. On January 3 and 15, the BSF troops opened fire on the drones carrying the weapons.
