The country's poll body barred Imran Khan from contesting elections for five years after finding him guilty of swindling gifts from the state gift repository - Toshakhana.
An Islamabad Sessions Court on Tuesday decided to indict former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan in the Toshakhana case in the coming week.
Additional Sessions Judge Zafar Iqbal, who was hearing the matter against the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader, said the charges will be framed on February 7.
The announcement was made after Khan failed to appear in person despite being summoned by the court.

What is Toshakhana Case All About?

In October 2022, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), barred Khan, the 1992 Cricket World Cup-winning captain, from holding public office for five years after he was accused of improperly declaring details of gifts from foreign dignitaries and profiting from their alleged sale.
The verdict came in response to a complaint filed by National Assembly Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, who alleged that the former premier swindled 52 gift items from the Toshakhana (state gift repository).
In its order, the ECP said that Khan made "false statements and incorrect declarations" about the items he received during his tenure as the nation's head of government, triggering widespread protests from his party.
Later, the election watchdog filed a plea in a local court in Islamabad, seeking criminal proceedings against Khan for allegedly lying to authorities about the presents he received from dignitaries of other countries being Pakistan Prime Minister from 2018 to 2022.
The court reserved its verdict on the ECP's plea during the previous hearing, but pronounced its judgment on Tuesday morning.
On the other hand, Khan, who suffered gunshot wounds in an apparent assassination attempt on November 3, is currently recuperating at his residence in the Pakistani capital.
