Kashmiri Hindus, also known as Pandits, have faced militant attacks since the beginning of an anti-India insurgency which led to their migration in the late 1980s.
A Kashmiri Pandit working as a security guard in a bank was shot dead by a suspected militant in Jammu and Kashmir's
Pulwama district on Sunday morning.
Revealing the identity of the victim, the Kashmiri police said Sanjay Sharma was on his way to the local market when the attack took place.
"He was shifted to hospital, however, he succumbed to injuries. There was an Armed guard in his village," it added.
Jammu and Kashmir's former state chief, Omar Abdullah, condemned the attack in a tweet: "Sanjay was working as a
bank security guard & was killed in a militant attack earlier today. I unequivocally condemn this attack & send my condolences to his loved ones."
