India took over the presidency of the G20, the group of the world's 20 largest economies, from Indonesia on December 1 last year. The theme of its presidency is "Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam," or "One Earth One Family One Future."
Indian Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra confirmed on Wednesday that the crisis in Ukraine would be among the major points of discussion during the G20 Foreign Ministers Meeting (FMM) in Delhi on Thursday.

"Given the developing situation of Russia-Ukraine, naturally, it'll be an important point of discussion during the Foreign Ministers' meet. Foreign ministers will be focusing on Russia-Ukraine situation, it'll be important to what they come out with, what understanding is developed," Kwatra stated during a presser in Delhi.

He added that other topics related to the crisis that could be on the agenda are food security and its global economic impact.

Asked about India's position on the Russia-Ukraine military confrontation, Kwatra reiterated Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's previous remarks emphasizing that both countries should resolve their differences through dialogue and diplomacy.

"India's position on the Russia-Ukraine conflict is that 'This isn't an era of war.' Dialogue and diplomacy are the way forward. The agenda is for the foreign ministers to discuss in the meet," Kwatra noted.

Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine on February 24, 2022, as the republics of Donbass asked Moscow for help in the wake of Ukrainian attacks. Russian President Vladimir Putin noted that the actions of the Kiev regime - which has been waging war against the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics for years - amounts to genocide.

Agenda of G20 Summit

Talking to media persons in Delhi ahead of the meeting of the foreign ministers of the G20 on Wednesday, Kwatra shared the broad agenda of their discussions.
He said the ministers would participate in two sessions. During the first session, they will deliberate on food and energy security, multilateralism, and development cooperation. The second session will see discussions on new and emerging threats, including counter-terrorism and counter-narcotics.
Global skill-mapping and humanitarian assistance, as well as disaster management will also be on the agenda.
