XI Says Chose to Visit Russia as 1st Country After Reelection Due to ‘Historical Logic’

MOSCOW (Sputnik) - Chinese President Xi Jinping said on Tuesday that he chose to pay a visit to Russia as the first foreign country after reelection because of historical logic and the strategic nature of the bilateral partnership.
"We have chosen Russia as the first stop of the Chinese leader's foreign visit. This corresponds to historical logic. Because we are each other's largest neighboring powers, we are also comprehensive strategic partners," Xi said at a meeting with Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin in Moscow.
The relations between the two countries have stood the test of time for strength, Xi added.
China's leader also said that he invited Russian President Vladimir Putin to pay a visit to China this year during their informal talks tete-a-tete on Monday.
The talks between the lwotwo world leaders lasted 4.5 hours.

The Chinese President confirmed to Russian President Vladimir Putin that Beijing is ready to continue playing a constructive role in promoting a political settlement of the Ukraine conflict.
"A review of history shows that conflicts in the end have to be settled through dialogue and negotiation. China released a document on its position on the Ukraine crisis, advocating the political settlement of the crisis and rejecting the Cold War mentality and unilateral sanctions," the statement read.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said he had carefully studied China's peace plan regarding the situation in Ukraine, adding that Russia is always open to negotiations and respects China's plan
In February, China released a 12-point document titled "China' Position on the Political Settlement of the Ukraine Crisis," promoting, among other things, respect of the sovereignty of all countries, the cessation of hostilities and the resumption of peace talks between Moscow and Kiev.
Moscow and Beijing have a lot of common goals and tasks, Putin said, while Xi acknowleded the two nations should have close relations.
The Russian president also noted that China takes a fair and balanced position on most pressing international issues.
