Devendra Fadnavis, the BJP's top leader in Maharashtra, and former state chief Uddhav Thackeray have been fierce opponents since 2019.
A rare display of bonhomie between ex-Maharashtra State Chiefs Devendra Fadnavis and Uddhav Thackeray on Thursday created a buzz in the political circles of India's richest state, which sends 48 lawmakers to parliament.
The duo was seen having a chat at the state legislative assembly before bursting into a smile as they greeted media persons gathered there.

"Coincidence is a myth in Politics. If you don't want anyone to know, no one ever will. But if you want people to know, then it's a spectacle. Since 2019, Devendra Fadnavis & Uddhav Thackeray never saw eye to eye. Today they walked together at Vidhan Bhawan. This pic is very imp," Kamlesh Sutar, the editor of the Marathi publication, Lokshahi Marathi, tweeted.

Fadnavis and Thackeray haven't seen eye to eye after the latter's party Shiv Sena severed ties with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) following the 2019 assembly elections over the state chief's chair.
After breaking his party's three-decade partnership with the BJP, Thackeray then went on to stitch an alliance with the opposition Congress and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and went on to become the state chief.
However, the Maharashtra government of the Shiv Sena, NCP, and Congress fell in June last year after Eknath Shinde, an aide-turned-foe of Thackeray, rebelled against him.
Shinde subsequently became the state chief after joining hands with the BJP. Fadnavis serves as the deputy state chief in his government.
The growing proximity between Thackeray and Fadnavis seems to have revived speculation that there could be a rapprochement between the two erstwhile allies, especially when national elections in India are just over 12 months away.
Before their bitter break-up in 2019, Thackeray's party, Shiv Sena, and the BJP were allies for many decades and even shared power twice in Maharashtra.
