How Does Pakistan Instability Threaten Neighboring India?
Although ex-PM Imran Khan was released on bail on Friday, the security situation in Pakistan has remained fragile.
The president of New Delhi-based analytical center the ImagIndia Institute, Robinder Sachdev, has told Russian media that due to the current unstable situation in Pakistan, India is facing "two major threats".
1.
Firstly, Pakistan "could organise an operation under a foreign flag on the Indo-Pakistani border, which would then lead to accusations against India".
2.
Secondly, the expert believes, "extremist forces in Pakistan, in conjunction with sleeper cells in India, could carry out a
major attack on Indian soil".
"Such an attack would immediately provoke a strong reaction and warning, or even a pinpoint strike by India against extremists within Pakistan. A pinpoint strike by India would once again divert the attention of the Pakistani public whilst uniting the people of Pakistan," Sachdev suggested.
Citing sources in the Indian Ministry of Defence, media reported that the Indian Armed Forces have increased security measures along the border with Pakistan following the arrest of former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan.
According to the publication, Indian military officials are closely monitoring the situation in Pakistan in light of recent events: they fear that the Pakistani Army may resort to military provocations along the Line of Control (LoC) in order to divert public attention from the events in the country following Khan's arrest.
