Hindu nationalist organization Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) is the ideological parent of India's ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Amid an escalating row over the newly-formed Karnataka government's proposed plan to ban the RSS and its affiliates, including the Bajrang Dal, state BJP chief Nalin Kumar Kateel warned the ruling party against implementing such an order.
Karnataka is currently under Congress rule following its emphatic victory over the BJP in this month's state assembly polls.
Since, a few Congress politicians in the state have voiced their support for a ban on the RSS and Bajrang Dal.
Demands for a ban on the Bajrang Dal have been a bit more vocal as Congress has often likened it to the Popular Front of India (PFI), a radical Muslim organization banned by the central government last year.
Among the latest to join the chorus for a ban on the RSS and the Bajrang Dal was legislator Priyank Kharge, who is also the son of Congress' national president Mallikarjun Kharge.
"We will not hesitate to ban organisations which indulge in moral policing. It might be RSS or Bajrang Dal or any other communal organisation," Kharge wrote on Twitter recently.
"If any religious or political outfit tries to disrupt peace, spread communal hatred and bring disrepute to Karnataka, our Government will not hesitate to tackle them legally or ban them. Even if it is RSS or any other organisation," he added.

Karnataka Election Not End of the Road for BJP, Modi Biographer Says
Responding to Kharge's recent remarks, Kateel said that Karnataka would "burn to ashes" if Congress moved to ban the RSS.
"Priyank Kharge spoke about banning the RSS. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is a RSS swayamsevak ('volunteer' in hindi - ed.note) and is in a central position. We are all swayamsevaks of the RSS. Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi and the Narasimharao government also tried to impose a ban on the RSS but couldn't succeed," the Karnataka BJP boss said.
"Try to ban Bajrang dal and RSS, Congress will burn to ashes. It is better for Priyank Kharge to know about the history of the country. Priyank Kharge should mind his tongue," Kateel added in a stern warning to the Congress.
