Top Indian wrestlers have leveled sexual assault charges against the chief of India's wrestling federation, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. The protest, led by the wrestlers, has now been joined by the farmers' union.
Farmer leader Rakesh Tikait said that farmers' unions would leave no stone unturned to ensure justice for farmers and, if needed they will meet the president of India on Thursday. He also expressed his support for the wrestlers' protest.
"We will go to the president of India if need be… We are with you, you don't have to worry," he said after a large gathering in Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar area.
Indian wrestlers have been demanding action and the arrest of Wrestling Federation of India chief Singh, whom they accused of sexually harassing seven athletes, including a minor, since January.
Singh has refuted all the allegations, and on Thursday said, "If a single allegation against me is proven, I will hang myself."
Farmer unions held Khap Mahapanchayat, a congregation of different dominant caste communities, in Uttar Pradesh to discuss the issue and how to take the protest forward.
Meanwhile, Tikait said the final decision on the course of action would be decided on Friday in Haryana after another Khap leaders meeting.
