In May this year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi sent out more than 71,000 government appointment letters to the new recruits as part of the ‘Rozgar Mela’ (employment fair).
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday lambasted previous governments over their recruitment process to government jobs and said that “dynastic” political parties perpetuated “nepotism and corruption”.
The Prime Minister's remarks came while he was addressing the newly recruited government employees who had come through the ‘Rozgar Mela’ (employment fair). He also sent out about 70,000 appointment letters to the new recruits in various government departments and organisations.
The new employees will join various government departments including the Department of Financial Services, Department of Posts, Department of School Education, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Defence, Department of Revenue, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Department of Atomic Energy, Ministry of Railways, Department of Audit and Accounts, Department of Atomic Energy and Ministry of Home Affairs.

'Looting the Youth' With Rate Cards

Although refraining from naming any particular political party, Modi said that dynastic parties had betrayed the youth by encouraging corruption and nepotism in the recruitment process and such parties “looted” the youth with their “rate cards” for various posts.
By "rate card" he was referring to the fact that some political parties used to take money from candidates in return for a government job.
Modi noted that compared with a decade ago, today's India is a more stable, safer and stronger country.

“Today, India is known for its political stability which means a lot in today’s world. Today, the Government of India is recognised as a decisive government. Today, the government is known for its progressive economic and social decisions and global agencies are acknowledging the work in ease of living, infrastructure building and ease of doing business,” he said.

Giving the new recruits a word of encouragement, Modi said: “You have to take these reforms further. And with all this, you will always retain your learning instinct. In the journey of the next 25 years of 'Amrit Kaal' [an auspicious period to start a venture], let us together move forward towards realising the vision of a developed India.”
'Rozgar Mela', a drive to recruit one million personnel to government departments, was launched by Modi on 22 October 2022.
As well as sending out more than 71,000 appointment letters in May, the government distributed 71,000 letters in January this year and 75,000 letters in October 2022 when the first phase of the recruitment drive was launched.
