The Indian Army and the rescue team have rescued at least 3,500 travellers, who were stranded in Chungthang valley in North Sikkim after a landslide washed away roads and blocked highways amid incessant rains.A bridge near Chungthang Valley also washed away, leaving several tourists stuck for hours.Trishakti Corps Indian Army troops and the personnel of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) came to their rescue and worked all night amid heavy rains to build a temporary crossing over the sea.By Saturday afternoon, the Army had rescued over 2,000 tourists, said the defence PRO at Guwahati, Lt. Col. Mahendra Rawaat.The rescue operation is continuing in full swing, evacuating tourists from the landslide and flood-hit areas and also restoring road connectivity.Tents and medical aid posts have been set up in the affected areas for the stranded tourists to provide support to them.Several videos are doing the rounds on the internet showing tourists being assisted by the Indian Army and the rescue teams.
