The first landing of an IAF aircraft on the Purvanchal expressway was conducted two years ago in November 2021.
The Indian Air Force (IAF) carried out emergency drills on the airstrip of an expressway (tolled highway) in Uttar Pradesh on Saturday.
According to a statement from the IAF, both fighter jets and transport aircraft were used during the exercise.
"Successful Civil-Military fusion displayed through activation of Purvanchal Expressway by a team of Airforce Gorakhpur on behalf of CAC IAF and UPEIDA and Sultanpur Admin," the IAF tweeted.
The development was also confirmed by the District Magistrate (DM) of Sultanpur where the airstrip is located.
"Around 10 jets and aircraft performed a touch-and-go exercise on the airstrip in which one AN32 (Transport aircraft) completely landed on the airstrip," Sultanpur DM Jasjeet Kaur told reporters.
