In March, the Manipur High Court asked the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led state government to designate the Meitei community a Scheduled Tribe (ST). Later, however, clashes erupted over the proposal to give the Meities the designation.
The Indian Army has stated that female activists were deliberately blocking routes and interfering in security forces operations in the northeastern state of Manipur.
The army has requested that locals help them so that they can help out the people of Manipur in return.
The state, which has been marred by ethnic violence between two tribal groups, the Kukis and Meities, has been on edge since May.
On Tuesday evening, in a tweeted video clip, The army sought to highlight such occurrences Thursday evening in a tweeted video clip. They include last week's standoff when some army men had to let go of 12 Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) militants in a bid to save civilians' lives.
The army stated that it had to do it after being surrounded by a crowd of about 1,200 people, mostly women, in the state's Itham Village.

In a public appeal, the army has sought support for its efforts to restore peace and normalcy in violence-hit Manipur.

The state of Manipur, which borders Myanmar on India's northeastern side, is gripped by ethnic violence due to a tussle between the majority Meitei and minority Kuki communities.

The Meiteis, a majority tribe of the Manipur population, wants ST status. But the Kuki tribe, who are a minority in the state, is dead against such a demand, fearing if the state government accepted the Meities' demand, it would be a loss for them.
Kukis believe the ST status would mean entitling the Meities to grab a reservation in government jobs and educational institutes besides allowing them to have access to forest lands.
