Can the IPI Gas Pipeline Be Resuscitated?

Subscribe
The IPI pipeline, also known as the 'Peace Pipeline', is meant to deliver natural gas from Iran to Pakistan.
The Iran-Pakistan-India (IPI) gas pipeline project was first initiated by Tehran in mid-1990s.
However, the project was delayed for several reasons, including due to US sanctions against Iran and uncertainty about the route of the pipeline (either by land or sea).
What's more, India, refused to participate in the venture, citing elevated security risks associated with ensuring the safety of the gas pipeline in the Pakistani section.
The TAPI gas pipeline project aims to bring natural gas from the Galkynysh gas field in Turkmenistan to Pakistan through Afghanistan. It's worth noting that low-cost gas supplies are vital for Pakistan’s industrial sector, as the South Asian nation is dealing with an unprecedented economic crisis and is looking for employment opportunities for Pakistani youth.
Following the halt in pipeline gas supplies to Europe, Russia also seeks to arrange deliveries of its natural gas to India, but still needs to choose a project.
As nations mulling whether to revive or not revive the project, check out in Sputnik's infographic all the details about it!
