Indian Navy chief Admiral R. Hari Kumar formally handed over the missile corvette INS Kirpan to Vietnam's People's Navy (VPN) in a ceremony held in Cam Ranh province on the weekend.On this occasion, Admiral Kumar hosted a grand reception for Vietnamese dignitaries, including his counterpart from the Southeast Asian nation.Sharing information about the event held onboard Indian Navy's warship INS Airavat, the South Asian country's blue water force stated that it was attended by Vietnamese Navy chief Pham Manh Hung, Indian Ambassador to Vietnam Sandeep Arya among others.The handing over of INS Kirpan to the Vietnamese Navy is significant because it is the first time New Delhi has gifted a fully operational warship to another defense force in the world.The announcement about the warship's transfer to Vietnam was made by Indian Defense Minister Rajnath Singh following his talks with his Vietnam counterpart General Phan Van Giang who visited New Delhi in June.New Delhi previously said it was offering the naval vessel to Hanoi because it wanted to assist friendly nations in increasing their capability and capacity.The Indian Defense Ministry added that it was also in sync with India's "Act East" policy, which focuses on enhancing New Delhi's relations in the spheres of economy, defense, and geopolitics in the Indian Ocean Region.

New Delhi's defense ties with Hanoi have experienced an uptick in recent years, with joint military exercises, and interactions among the tri-services of the two nations occurring at regular intervals.
Indian Navy chief Admiral R. Hari Kumar formally handed over the missile corvette INS Kirpan to Vietnam's People's Navy (VPN) in a ceremony held in Cam Ranh province on the weekend.
On this occasion, Admiral Kumar hosted a grand reception for Vietnamese dignitaries, including his counterpart from the Southeast Asian nation.

Indian Navy's warship INS Airavat, the South Asian country's blue water force stated that it was attended by
Vietnamese Navy chief Pham Manh Hung, Indian Ambassador to Vietnam Sandeep Arya among others.
"Adm R Hari Kumar hosted a deck reception onboard Airavat on the eve of the handing over of INS Kirpan to the VPN. Attended by RAdm Pham Manh Hung, Chief of Staff, VPN, HE Mr Sandeep Arya, Indian Ambassador to Vietnam & dignitaries from the Civil Admin & VPN Personnel," the Indian Navy posted on Twitter on Tuesday.
The handing over of INS Kirpan to the Vietnamese Navy is significant because it is the first time New Delhi has gifted a fully operational warship to another defense force in the world.
