The incessant rainfall and the subsequent floods in Delhi have caused sanitation problems, leading to an increase in seasonal infection-related illnesses such as typhoid, dengue fever, and conjunctivitis among others.
Indian doctors have issued an advisory to people to prevent themselves from getting infected amid a rise in cases of monsoon-related infections in Delhi.
In this context, Sputnik India lists the top precautionary measures suggested by doctors to keep infections at bay.
Any form of self-medication should be avoided. If a patient with typhoid starts taking antibiotics which may not be effective against the disease, their body will eventually develop resistance to the drugs. Seek medical help immediately after identifying symptoms.
Conjunctivitis causes redness, itchy and watery pus in the eye. Usually, it happens due to bacteria. While conjunctivitis is not transmitted through eye contact, it is crucial for infected individuals to isolate themselves in order to prevent the spread of the infection to others.
Additionally, wearing goggles is highly recommended to provide further protection.
Maintain hygiene; wash eyes with cold water, avoid touching the eyes, and do not share personal items.
If your conjunctivitis is of viral origin, and you start taking eye drops containing steroids, you are actually risking prolonging the infection. Take antibiotics under the guidance of a doctor.
People should stay hydrated and try to avoid street food in this season to prevent typhoid.
Eat only clean, cooked food, maintain adequate sanitation, and keep the surroundings clean.
