Communal clashes erupted in the Nuh district of Haryana two weeks ago, after a mob tried to stop a religious procession organized by Vishwa Hindu Parishad by pelting attendees with stones and setting vehicles on fire.
Internet services in Nuh district of Haryana were restored on Monday after the district witnessed communal clashes two weeks ago.
Mobile internet, SMS and broadband services had been suspended in the district since July 31 in order to stop any provocative messages or videos from circulating and so as to avert any untoward incident in the tension-hit areas.
Meanwhile, a Hindu group had organized a mega meeting on Sunday at Pondri village at the Palwal-Nuh border in the state, where it was decided that the “Brajmandal Dharmik Yatra” of Vishwa Hindu Parishad will resume on August 28.
Apart from this, a committee of 51 people also demanded that Nuh district be abolished and decided that the area should be made cow slaughter free.
Local police had given permission for the meeting on several conditions: that there would be no provocative speech, no weapons, sticks, batons or any flammable objects, that no more than 500 people would attend it, and that it should end by 2 p.m. (IST).
However, despite police warning attendees to refrain from “hate speech”, several members attending the meeting made provocative statements: one of them said “if you raise a finger, we will cut off your hands” while another went on to demand licenses for rifles.

Nuh Violence

The clashes broke out in Nuh on July 31 after a group of people tried to stop “Brajmandal Dharmik Yatra,” organized by Hindu advocacy group Vishwa Hindu Parishad, by throwing stones and setting several vehicles on fire.
Six people, including two Home Guards and a Mosque cleric, have died in the clashes while several others were injured.
So far, more than 390 people have been arrested in connection with the clashes while 118 have been detained; over 100 First Information Reports (FIRs) have been filed by the police.
After the violence, the schools and other educational institutions were closed in the district and internet services were suspended.
The schools and other institutions reopened last week.
