On August 14th, Pakistan celebrates its Independence Day, marking the day it emerged as a sovereign nation.
Russia's President Vladimir Putin has sent a congratulatory message to Pakistani President Arif Alvi on the occasion of Pakistan's Independence Day, Kremlin said on Monday.
"Dear President, please accept my heartfelt congratulations on the occasion of Pakistan's national holiday — Independence Day ... I am sure that by joint efforts we will continue to build up multifaceted Russian-Pakistani ties for the benefit of our peoples, in the interests of strengthening regional stability and security," the message read.
Pakistan celebrates Independence Day on 14 August. On this day in 1947, British India was partitioned into two soveriegn countries India and Pakistan. Britain's division of the Indian subcontinent into two countries based on religious affiliation led to bloody strife between Muslims and Hindus.
