India has successfully test-fired a series of missiles of late, including the enhanced variants of the Brahmos and an anti-radiation rocket.
New Delhi on Wednesday successfully test-fired the locally manufactured beyond visual range (BVR) air-to-air missile ASTRA from an LCA Tejas aircraft, the Indian Ministry of Defense (MoD) said in a statement.
The MoD added that the test was conducted by the warplane from an elevation of over 6,000 meters "off the coast of Goa".
Besides, the statement mentioned that the launch of the missile from the combat jet was "textbook perfect."
"Tejas, LCA LSP-7 successfully fired the ASTRA missile at an altitude of about 20,000 feet. All the objectives of the test were met," the ministry said.
Also, another Tejas aircraft kept a watch on the warplane that carried out the test.
The ASTRA is designed and developed by India's state-run Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) and its "firing from home-grown Tejas fighter is a major step towards Aatmanirbhar Bharat".
