The New Education Policy was approved by New Delhi in July 2020 to replace the previous National Policy on Education of 1986. It aimed at producing “engaged, productive and contributing citizens for building equitable, inclusive and plural society as envisaged in Constitution”.
New Delhi announced major changes in the education system on Wednesday as per the New Education Policy (NEP). As part of the changes, Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan announced the new curriculum framework (NCF).
As per the NCF, students of Class 11 and 12 will have to study two languages out of which one must be Indian language, while board exams (conducted for students of Class 10 and 12) will be conducted twice a year to ensure that students have enough time and opportunity to perform well.
“Students can then appear for a board exam in subjects they have completed and feel ready for. They will also be allowed to retain the best score,” the NCF further said.
Similarly, the students will also gain the flexibility to choose subjects as the customary segregation of arts, science and commerce streams will no longer restrict students’ choice.

“In due course of time, school boards are to develop capacities to offer 'on demand' exams in due course of time. Besides board exam test developers and evaluators will have to go through university-certified courses before taking up this work,” the NCF stipulates.

The aim of new the framework is to reportedly evaluate students’ understanding and competency as well as envision a future where students can explore a wider array of subjects.
