At the moment, BRICS unites Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, but recently another 23 states expressed their desire to join the economic bloc, including six that have already received an invitation.
On 24 August 2023, Argentina, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates were invited to join the BRICS grouping. This expansion brings together nations from different regions, adding geopolitical and economic muscle to the organization.
With the inclusion of these new members, BRICS will account for approximately 37 percent of the world's GDP (seven percent more than the G7).
Gas reserves in the BRICS countries after the expansion of the association will double to about 50% of all world reserves, or almost 94 trillion cubic meters, according to open source data.
