Russian Rhythmic Gymnastics Chief Invites Indian Athlete to Train With Her
Moscow, often called the Mecca of gymnastics, has produced several Olympic and world champions for decades.
Irina Viner, the President of the Russian
Rhythmic Gymnastics Federation, has invited top Indian gymnast
Ananya Garikipati to train with her in
Moscow.
Viner's comments came after Garikipati who is attending the International University Sports Festival in Russia stated that it was her dream to train under the head coach of the Eurasian nation's Rhythmic Gymnastics team.
In response to the Indian gymnast's remarks about her, Viner said: "I read your note. I invite her to the national team to train for
free at any time."
Interestingly, this will not be the first time Garikipati will undergo training under a Russian coach.
Previously, she received guidance from 2008 Olympic gold medalist Anna Gavrilenko.
Notably, Garikipati came into the spotlight in 2019 after she became the first Indian rhythmic gymnast to clinch a gold medal at the Junior Star Rhythmic Gymnastics Championship held in the Russian capital.
