The Indian Cricket Board is the richest governing body of the sport in the world. However, it has faced severe criticism due to the national team's lack of success in major tournaments in recent times.
The long wait for the Indian men's cricket team's squad for the forthcoming World Cup is finally over, with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) naming the 15 men that will attempt to bring an end to the country's long wait for the title at home in October and November.

Who All Are in the Squad?

Among the fortunate ones to have found a place in the side was injured middle-order batter cum wicket-keeper K.L. Rahul who has not played any form of cricket for months.
While Rahul is currently a part of the Rohit Sharma-led side in the ongoing Asia Cup in Sri Lanka, he's yet to feature in the two games India has played over there so far.
But the Indian think tank including chief selector Ajit Agarkar, skipper Rohit Sharma, and head coach Rahul Dravid seem to have faith in the Karnataka-born player's abilities, and he's all set to be slotted at the crucial No.5 position in the batting order.
Other players who have spent considerable time on the sidelines due to injuries in the past twelve months - middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer, and fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah also made the cut for the World Cup.

Names Who Missed Out

Meanwhile, Tilak Varma, Sanju Samson, and Prasidh Krishna, presently in Sri Lanka as members of India's Asia Cup contingent, have been omitted from the World Cup squad.
The 2023 Cricket World Cup kickstarts with a match between defending champions England and last edition's finalists New Zealand in Ahmedabad on October 5.
Hosts India will open their World Cup campaign against Australia in Chennai three days later.
