After the remarkable success of numerous missions by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), at least 23 companies have shown interest in obtaining the Small Satellite Launch Vehicle (SSLV) technology, a top official said has said. The Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (IN-SPACe) Chairman Pawan K. Goenka said during the International Conference on Space by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) that they are aggressively working towards the transfer of technology (TOT) to see how ISRO is leveraged by the private sector.Out of 23 companies that have shown interest in applying for Small Satellite Launch Vehicle technology, only one of them will get it, Goenka said. With the transfer of SSLV technology, IN-SPACe will be handing over the launch vehicle lock, stock, and barrel to the private sector.Applications are open until September 25. According to Goenka, this is a groundbreaking example of an agency transferring the complete design of a launch vehicle to the private sector, which might be the first of its kind worldwide.Apart from SSLV, a total of 42 applications or space technologies are said to be transferred to the private sector, Goenka said, adding that ISRO is working closely with IN-SPACe to get the process going. At present, 19 technologies are ready for transfer.IN-SPACe is trying for all-inclusive infrastructure including a plug-and-play kind of setup for the industries focusing on manufacturing, that will be provided by the state government. In collaboration with the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), it has also developed and launched a ‘Catalogue of Indian Standards for Space Industry’ that contains 15 standards that private players will be recommended to follow.

Over Twenty Firms Looking to Obtain ISRO’s Satellite Tech
The IN-SPACe, an autonomous nodal agency under the Department of Space , was formed in 2020 to boost public-private partnerships in satellite manufacturing and launch industry.
Goenka said during the International Conference on Space by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) that they are aggressively working towards the transfer of technology (TOT) to see how ISRO is leveraged by the private sector.
India’s space economy, which stands at $8 billion, aims to soar to $44 billion by 2033, Goenka said.
Out of 23 companies that have shown interest in applying for Small Satellite Launch Vehicle technology, only one of them will get it, Goenka said.
With the transfer of SSLV technology, IN-SPACe will be handing over the launch vehicle lock, stock, and barrel to the private sector.
Applications are open until September 25.
According to Goenka, this is a groundbreaking example of an agency transferring the complete design of a launch vehicle to the private sector, which might be the first of its kind worldwide.
Apart from SSLV, a total of 42 applications or
space technologies are said to be transferred to the private sector, Goenka said, adding that ISRO is working closely with IN-SPACe to get the process going.
At present, 19 technologies are ready for transfer.
IN-SPACe is trying for all-inclusive infrastructure including a plug-and-play kind of setup for the industries focusing on manufacturing, that will be provided by the state government.
In collaboration with the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), it has also developed and launched a ‘Catalogue of Indian Standards for Space Industry’ that contains 15 standards that private players will be recommended to follow.
