India's first space-based solar observatory, Aditya-L1, is expected to complete its fifth and final earth-bound maneuver on Tuesday. Later, the spacecraft will undergo the Trans-Lagrangian Point 1 Insertion (TL1I).
The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on Monday said that the satellite Aditya-L1 has begun collecting scientific data using the Supra Thermal and Energetic Particle Spectrometer (STEPS) instrument.
STEPS is one of the seven instruments deployed on board.

“STEPS comprises six sensors, each observing in different directions and measuring supra-thermal and energetic ions. The data collected by Aditya L1 while maneuvering around Earth's orbit helps scientists to analyse the behaviour of particles surrounding the earth, especially in the presence of the magnetic field of earth,” the ISRO said in a statement.

“STEPS was activated on 10 September at a distance of more than 50,000km from earth. Each unit of STEPS is operating within normal parameters. Data collected around L1 would provide insights into the origin, acceleration, and anisotropy of solar wind and space weather phenomena,” the ISRO added.

On 2 September, India launched its mission to study the Sun, the Aditya L1. The mission aims to help scientists understand the upper layers, the chromosphere, and corona of the Sun as well as how these layers behave and interact with each other.
