Western media has a tendency to hastily judge and lecture countries in the global South and Middle East regarding their diplomatic relations. However, Indian Parliamentarian Shashi Tharoor has responded fittingly to all the biased international publications this time.
Shashi Tharoor, an Indian politician known for his erudition, has slammed the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) for its analysis of the India-Canada row.
Tharoor called out the hypocrisy of Western media on Wednesday night, questioning their reluctance to acknowledge their own biases. He also wondered if the West possessed 'any mirrors' to reflect upon themselves.
“I never cease to be amazed by the blinkers regularly put on by Western media.
They are so quick to judge other countries, so blind to their own!”, Tharoor wrote on the social media platform X (formerly
Twitter).
Tharoor made these remarks in response to a heated diplomatic dispute that unfolded between India and Canada after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau accused the
Indian government of having connections to the assassination of Khalistani leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar.
An article by the BBC highlights the condemnation of alleged
extraterritorial assassinations by Western nations, including the USA and UK. These condemnations address the actions alledgedly attributed to countries such as Russia, Iran, and Saudi Arabia. They warn India not to join that list.
Denouncing the BBC’s allegations, Tharoor said that the US and Israel are the foremost practitioners of extraterritorial assassinations, and it is not Russia or Saudi Arabia who are guilty.
“Hello? The two foremost practitioners of extraterritorial assassinations in the last 25 years have been Israel and the US! Any mirrors available in the West?”, Tharoor added.
