G-20 Summit in New Delhi
The G-20 Leaders' Summit in New Delhi, set to be held from September 9 to 10, will be the culmination of India's G-20 presidency. As the host of the G-20 meet-up, India has withstood Western pressure on the issue of the Ukraine conflict and has refused to join the sanctions war against Russia.

China had previously denied rumors that President Xi Jinping's choice to not attend the G-20 summit in New Delhi was related to the border tensions between the two neighboring countries.
Beijing has vehemently denounced Washington's accusations that it played a disruptive role in achieving agreement on specific matters during India's G-20 presidency. China stated that the US and its Western allies are attempting to tear the G-20 apart by promoting their own agenda.

China's scathing response to the US allegations came in an editorial written in the government mouthpiece, Global Times. The editorial emphasizes that Western nations, especially the United States, are overly fixated on the military clash between Moscow and Kiev, whereas India, as the president of the G-20, is placing greater importance on economic revival and multilateral diplomacy.

''The US and the West, who often claim they 'stand with India,' are making significant efforts to exaggerate the 'differences' between participating countries in the G-20 summit,'' the editorial mentioned.

The US is to blame, not China

China emphasized that American National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan's suggestions for a constructive role in India's G-20 presidency were not applicable to Beijing. Instead, his advice was directed towards Washington, as it is the US that is acting as the spoiler in achieving consensus in Delhi.

"Before the summit, Washington inexplicably issued a 'warning' to China, urging it not to 'play the role of spoiler' at the G-20 summit. In this regard, we would like to say that these words are quite accurate if we swap China with the US," they said.

G-20 Member States Struggling to Reach Consensus

The latest allegations and counter-allegations between China and the US come amid reports that G-20 member states are struggling to reach a consensus on the summit communique in the Indian capital, largely due to sharp differences over the Ukraine issue.

Although India has been a reliable strategic partner of Russia, maintaining strong defense ties with the Eurasian nation, it chooses not to denounce Moscow's military intervention in Ukraine. However, this viewpoint is met with resistance from Western countries, who consistently oppose this stance.
In this context, China asserted that the US and its Western allies are the main hurdle to achieving a joint leaders' declaration.
Should this happen, it would become the first occasion in the history of the economic bloc, as it would be the first time that a G-20 summit ends without the issuance of a statement from the leaders.
"They have shown a tendency of wanting to tear the G-20 apart since last year's summit in Bali, Indonesia. This year, they have intensified their efforts to castrate the G-20," the editorial piece in the Chinese publication elaborated.
