India’s Neha Thakur on Tuesday made history as she clinched the country's first medal in sailing at the Asian Games 2023.Thakur's silver in the Girl’s Dinghy ILCA-4 event was India's first medal on Day Three of the Asian Games which are continuing until 8 October.The gold medal in the event was bagged by Thailand’s Noppassorn Khunboonjan and Singapore’s Keira Marie Carlyle took bronze.The net score is determined by taking into account all the races in which the sailor has participated, then the worst score is subtracted from the total points scored. Finally, the net score is given and the sailor with the lowest net score is declared the winner.Thakur - the 17-year-old daughter of a farmer from Madhya Pradesh and a student at Bhopal's National Sailing School - finished with a total of 32 points although her net score was 27. Gold medallist Khunboonjan achieved a net score of 16 and Carlyle’s net score was 28.Later in the day, India's Eabad Ali claimed bronze in the men's windsurfer RS:X event in which the 29-year-old achieved a net result of 50 after taking part in a taxing series of 14 races.The sailors' accomplishments were praised by several ministers and legions of countrymen.

India’s Neha Thakur on Tuesday made history as she clinched the country's first medal in sailing at the Asian Games 2023.
Thakur's silver in the Girl’s Dinghy ILCA-4 event was India's first medal on Day Three of the Asian Games which are continuing until 8 October.
The gold medal in the event was bagged by Thailand’s Noppassorn Khunboonjan and Singapore’s Keira Marie Carlyle took bronze.
The sailors have to participate in 11 grueling races in the ILCA-4 dinghy category and the winner is decided on the basis of net score.
The net score is determined by taking into account all the races in which the sailor has participated, then the worst score is subtracted from the total points scored. Finally, the net score is given and the sailor with the lowest net score is declared the winner.
