Prime Minister Narendra Modi commended the Indian athletes competing in the ongoing Asian Games 2023 in Hangzhou, China, after surpassing the 100-medal mark.The women's kabaddi team secured India's 100th medal by defeating Chinese Taipei in an exciting match. The Indian team scored 26 points, with Chinese Taipei falling just one point behind.Describing the athletes' performance as a “momentous achievement”, Modi in a tweet said: “The people of India are thrilled that we have reached a remarkable milestone of 100 medals. I extend my heartfelt congratulations to our phenomenal athletes whose efforts have led to this historic milestone for India.”The Prime Minister expressed his anticipation to host the contingent and interact with them on October 10.Modi also congratulated the Indian women’s kabaddi team on their triumphant victory over Chinese Taipei.Wishing the women's kabaddi players success in their future endeavors, the Prime Minister hailed their performance as "historic."Currently, India stands in fourth place on the medal tally with 25 gold, 35 silver, and 40 bronze medals. China leads the table with a total of 358 medals, including 188 gold, 106 silver, and 64 bronze. Japan follows in second place with a total of 170 medals, consisting of 48 gold, 57 silver, and 65 bronze. Meanwhile, the Republic of Korea holds third place with 175 medals, including 37 gold, 51 silver, and 87 bronze.

The Indian contingent achieved their previous best performance at the Asian Games in 2018 in Indonesia, where they won a total of 70 medals, including 16 gold, 23 silver, and 31 bronze.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi commended the Indian athletes competing in the ongoing Asian Games 2023 in Hangzhou, China, after surpassing the 100-medal mark.
