The first cricket Test match between India and Pakistan was played in October 1952. Later, in October 1978, the two teams played their first One Day International (50-over format).
With the 2023 Cricket World Cup commencing, fans are anxiously awaiting yet another monumental showdown between two legendary cricket rivals - India and Pakistan. The two cricket giants will meet on 14 October at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahemdabad, Gujarat.
The quadrennial cricket event will be hosted by India this year. Ten teams will compete in the 13th edition of the World Cup.

India-Pakistan Cricket Rivalry

Relations between India and Pakistan have been intense since the partition of the two countries in 1947. The sour relationship caused by the partition has ignited a fierce rivalry in sports, especially cricket, which is passionately followed by citizens from both countries.
Although the two nations played their first match against each other in 1952, cricket has not been a regular fixture, with a number of planned tours cancelled, mainly due to political reasons.
The two neighbours didn't play cricket between 1962 and 1977 as they fought wars in 1965 and 1971. Cricket was suspended in 1999 and 2008 due to the Kargil War and the Mumbai terrorist attacks respectively.
So far, both countries have competed in a total of 205 cricket matches across all formats. Pakistan has emerged victorious in 88 of these matches, while India has won 73. Additionally, there have been 44 matches that either ended in draws or had no results.
These 205 matches include 59 Tests, 134 ODIs and 12 T20Is. In Tests and ODIs, Pakistan have the edge over India, winning 12 and 73 matches respectively, while India have won only 9 Tests and 56 ODIs.
However, India have a better record against their neighbours in T20Is, having won nine matches against Pakistan's three.

Apart from that, India have always proved their supremacy over their arch-rivals in the ODI World Cup. India and Pakistan have met on cricket's biggest stage seven times and India have remained unbeaten.
