Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan said on Saturday that the ongoing global geopolitical and technological changes are fomenting uncertainty and creating a volatile, complex and ambiguous environment.General Chauhan said that countries are now preparing themselves for an uncertain future, which is mostly reflective of their national strategies and defence spending."Israel-Hamas conflict, who would've predicted eight days from now that the world will be facing this problem? Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan said that as the future is uncertain, many countries are increasing their spending on strategies and defence.
Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan said on Saturday that the ongoing global geopolitical and technological changes are fomenting uncertainty and creating a volatile, complex and ambiguous environment.
General Chauhan said that countries are now preparing themselves for an uncertain future, which is mostly reflective of their national strategies and defence spending.
"Israel-Hamas conflict, who would've predicted eight days from now that the
world will be facing this problem? That is the
kind of uncertainty I was talking about", the CDS said.
"If you have a look at national security strategies, countries such as Japan, France, Germany, [the] UK, Poland, South Korea, Bangladesh and many others have revived their national security strategies", said the chief of defence staff, while speaking at the 14th Air Chief Marshal LM Katre Memorial Lecture organised by the Air Force Association in Bengaluru city.
Most of these nations have almost doubled their spending on defence, said General Chauhan.
"Whether the defence industry globally is ready to meet the demand of these nations, that remains to be seen", the CDS said.
The CDS said that the world is transitioning between two orders, the old order is withering away, and the shapes and
contours of the new world order are yet to stabilise, "predicting how it will be in the coming times will be rather difficult".
He suggested that a multipolar world order will emerge, in which there will be no permanent friend or enemy, and relations with other nations will evolve quicker than ever.
"Partnership and
new alliances will emerge amid this changing security environment", General Chauhan added.
