The Indian government launched 'Operation Ajay' last week to evacuate Indian citizens from Israel and Palestinian territories in the wake of hostilities between Israel Defense Forces and Hamas.
A fourth flight of 274 Indians evacuated from Israel reached New Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport on Sunday, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesman Arindam Bagchi announced on social media platform X.
The Indians were received at the airport by General (retired) Vijay Kumar Singh, Minister of State for Road Transport, Highways and Civil Aviation.
“The Indian government has a strong commitment to the safety of its citizens, who have yet again been rescued and brought back to the safety of the homeland. Whenever there has been a crisis in a foreign country, the Indian government has conducted (evacuation) operations to bring back the Indian citizens” Singh stated.
India’s External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar announced ‘Operation Ajay (invincible)’ on 12 October, just days Hamas carried out its deadliest ever attack against Israel.
Operation Ajay is geared towards evacuating Indians who wish to return home from Israel and Palestine, MEA said.
India’s flagship carrier Air India as well as other airlines have suspended operations between Tel Aviv and India in view of the security situation in the region.
Around 18,000 Indian nationals are present in Israel, while a dozen-odd citizens are in the Palestinian territories of Gaza, West Bank and East Jerusalem, according to Indian officials.

Over 900 Indians Evacuated

Since the launching of Operation Ajay, over 900 Indians have been evacuated through Tel Aviv.
The first flight, which landed in New Delhi on 13 October, brought back 212 Indian citizens.
The second flight carrying 235 Indians arrived in New Delhi on Saturday morning, while another flight with 197 passengers reached New Delhi from Tel Aviv on Saturday evening.
Meanwhile, IDF spokesman Jonathan Conricus said on Sunday morning that IDF forces were present all along Gaza Strip’s borders and were preparing for the “next stage” of the operation against Hamas, possibly a ground assault.
He reiterated his appeal for Palestinian civilians in northern part of Gaza to evacuate to the southern part, accusing Hamas of keeping the citizens from leaving to the safety of the south.
Nearly 1,300 Israeli citizens have been left dead in the missile and land-based attack by Hamas last weekend. The retaliatory air strikes by IDF have left over 2,200 Palestinians dead, according to reported estimates by Gaza Health Ministry.
