Powerful Earthquake of 6.1 Magnitude Hits Capital of Nepal

The impact of the earthquake was felt even in the neighboring districts of Kathmandu. No one was injured or killed in the jolt.
Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal, has been hit by an earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale, an official report said on Sunday.
The National Earthquake Monitoring and Research Centre (NEMRC) of Nepal informed that the earthquake with epicentre in Dhading district was recorded at 7:39 am (local time).
However, there was no report of any casualty or property damage due to the tremor, the NEMRC said, adding that people in adjourning districts of Bagmati and Gandaki provinces also felt the impact of the quake.
Nepal, which is situated on the ridge where the Tibetan and Indian tectonic plates meet, had its worst earthquake of 7.8 magnitude followed by aftershocks resulting in over 9,000 deaths in 2015.
According to the government's post-disaster needs assessment (PDNA) report, Nepal is the 11th most earthquake-prone country in the world.
