Despite receiving 220 million Pakistani rupees ($789,000) on Sunday, Pakistan State Oil has halted the provision of fuel to Pakistan International Airlines.
According to local media reports on Monday, Pakistan International Airline (PIA) has cancelled a total of 26 flights due to the fuel supply freeze by Pakistan State Oil (PSO).
The suspension of fuel supplies is a result of PIA's failure to pay outstanding dues to the PSO. The affected flights were scheduled to depart from various cities including Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Quetta, Bahawalpur, Multan, Gwadar, and several others.
When speaking to the press about the development, a PIA spokesperson said that those bound to be affected by the cancellations were provided with alternative flights.
Further media reports revealed that only three flights would take off from Karachi on Monday based on the PIA's fuel adjustment plan.

The PIA spokesperson also told the media that the national carrier is making payment for fuel on daily basis. So far, 500 million Pakistani rupees ($1,815,270) has been paid.

Notably, the PIA shelled out a payment of 220 million Pakistan rupees ($789,000) to the PSO on Sunday to cover supplies for 21-22 October.
Earlier, at least 14 domestic flights were cancelled while four were delayed by a few hours due to the fuel crisis.
