The Russian army has been using its state-of-the-art hypersonic missile arsenal in Ukraine. Kinzhal, one of the most frequently used, caught Sputnik's attention.
The Kh-47M2 Kinzhal (Dagger) is a Russian hypersonic air-launched ballistic missile. It has a reported range of 1,500-2,000 km and a speed of up to Mach 10. It can carry either conventional or nuclear warheads.
Russia is a world leader in the development of hypersonic missiles. These missiles are capable of hitting stationary objects as well as surface ships: aircraft carriers, cruisers, destroyers and frigates.
Amid the ongoing special military operation, President Putin has declared that Moscow has completed development of the Burevestnik nuclear cruise missile and the Sarmat heavy intercontinental ballistic missile. For the time being, however, Kinzhal remains Russia's most widely deployed hypersonic missile system.
