The Indian Navy has recently stepped up testing of the much-heralded BrahMos missile in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR), with the latest firing of the missile taking place this week.
The Indian Navy successfully test-fired the BrahMos missile from a destroyer, a warship within its fleet, on the eastern seaboard in the Bay of Bengal on Wednesday.
The test accomplished all mission objectives, India's blue water force said in a statement on Twitter, now X.

"A destroyer of the Indian Navy's Eastern Fleet successfully test-fired a BrahMos missile in the Bay of Bengal. The missile achieved all mission objectives," the statement said.

In recent weeks, India has test-fired a number of BrahMos missiles, including an extended-range land and air variant, all of which are reportedly being inducted into service with the Indian Army and Indian Air Force (IAF).

BrahMos Extended-Range Variant

This upgraded version of the BrahMos is expected to extend the range of the missile from the existing 290 kilometers to 500, boosting India's capacity to strike deep inside enemy territory.
Today, the BrahMos remains one of the few missiles in the world that can be launched from land, sea, air and submarine and forms the backbone of India's conventional missile arsenal.
The BrahMos missile is manufactured by BrahMos Aerospace, which is a joint venture of the Indian and Russian governments.
