Indian Navy's Chetak Helicopter Crashes at Kochi Air Station in Kerala: Report

A Chetak helicopter crashed on Saturday at the runway of the Kochi naval air station, INS Garuda in Kochi, media reported quoting Navy sources. The Indian Navy chopper which was on a training flight, crashed soon after the lift-off, sources added.
The seven seater helicopter has two pilots on board, who are injured, while one personnel was killed after he was hit by the rotor blade of the chopper.
INS Chetak is one of the oldest helicopters in the Navy.
The incident happened around 2:30 pm, during the training session. However, Indian Navy has not yet released any statement so far.
Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), a state-owned airframer, produce the renowned Alouette III, also known as Chetak in India. The Indian Armed Forces highly rely on helicopters for a wide range of essential missions, such as operational tasks and comprehensive pilot training for all branches of the military.
Military expert earlier told Sputnik India that Indian government planned to replace the ageing and outdated Cheetah and Chetak with the Dhruv Advanced Light Helicopter.
