On 7 October, Hamas launched a surprise attack against Israel from Gaza. Israel retaliated with missile strikes and a complete blockade of the Gaza Strip, home to more than 2 million people.
Western countries are showing double standards in their treatment of the conflicts in the Gaza Strip and Ukraine, Russian Deputy Envoy to the United Nations Dmitry Polyanskiy told Sputnik.
"Our Western colleagues were crying wolf in many cases in Ukraine, and where the situation was, to put it mildly, much more questionable and when there were many more nuances. They do not even dare to call a spade a spade when it comes to Israel's actions," Polyanskiy said.
The United States, in particular, does not want to hear anything resembling a call for a ceasefire in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and resists any action by the UN Security Council that would "jeopardize" Israel's ground operation in the Gaza Strip, Polyanskiy added.

Evacuation Convoy for Al-Quds Hospital in Gaza Turns Back Due to Strikes: Red Crescent
The Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) said on Monday that a convoy that departed from southern Gaza north toward Al-Quds Hospital to evacuate people left there had to turn back due to strikes.
"PRCS’ evacuation convey, accompanied by the ICRC [International Committee of the Red Cross] had to turn back after it left Khan Younis towards Al-Quds Hospital. It had to do so due to relentless bombardment and dangerous situation where the Hospital is located in Tel Al-Hawa," the statement on X read.
The agency added that medical staff, patients and their families remained besieged without food, water or electricity.

About 7,000 People Sheltering in Shifa Hospital in Northern Gaza: Reports
About 7,000 people are currently sheltering in the Gaza Strip's largest hospital of Shifa that also houses 1,500 patients and medical staff, the medical facility's head, Mohammad Abu Salmiya, told CNN on Monday.
The hospital head said that conditions at the Shifa hospital were "catastrophic" after the collapse of the facility's essential units.

Russian criticism of Israel's policies in the Gaza Strip did not suddenly start when the conflict with Hamas escalated in early October, Russian Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations Dmitry Polyanskiy told Sputnik.
